Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin will be rocking on opening night of the 2014 NY2LA SPORTS Summer Jam. Always an electric atmosphere, some of the nation’s top travel programs and many of the nation’s top prospects will take center stage at one of July’s premier AAU events.  Here’s a quick look at a handful of must see affairs set to tip off this evening in front of a plethora of college coaches already confirmed to be in attendance…

17U Division Highlights Opening Night
Milwaukee Spartans vs. Texas Select – 6:00 PM – Court 2 – Homestead High School

Coming off a great run at the Next Level Invitational last weekend, the Milwaukee Spartans are back for a great opening night matchup with Texas Select. Marquette commit Matt Heldt was brilliant last week, but he’ll be put to the test against a solid front line of Texas Select led by Jalon Miller.

AUSA Hoops vs. Wisconsin Playground Warriors – 6:00 PM – Court 3 – Homestead High School
All the way from Australia, AUSA Hoops opens up against the Wisconsin Playground Warriors. Led by Wisconsin commit Brevin Pritzl, the Playground Warriors advanced to the 17U platinum semifinals last week at the Next Level Invitational. Getting great play from some of their role players, the Playground Warriors could be poised for another run. 

Atlanta Celtics vs. King James – 7:10 PM – Court 2 – Homestead High School
Stars will not be at a premium in this contest. The Atlanta Celtics are loaded, featuring Kobi Simmons, Braxton Blackwell, Josh Langford, Kaiser Gates, and D’Marcus Simonds. Kings James will counter with Duke commit Luke Kennard, touted sophomore wing V.J. King, and Ohio State commit A.J. Harris. Top to bottom, these are two of the most talented teams in this year’s field. 

Dream Vision vs. Team Loaded VA – 7:10 PM – Court 3 – Homestead High School
If you like post play, you’ll love this matchup between Dream Vision and Team Loaded. Chase Jeter, one of the top big men in the country for the 2015 class, squares off with Thon Maker, one of the top forwards in the country for the 2016 class. Both teams also feature a number of speedy guards and talented wings as well.

Quad City Elite vs. Wisconsin Shooters – 7:10 PM – Court 5 – Homestead High School
Don’t overlook this matchup between Quad City Elite and the Wisconsin Shooters. One of the top scoring duos in the tournament, Tyler Hall and Grant Gibson always put on a show. The Shooters, led by unsigned senior Keith Franklin, are coming off a final four run in last week’s Next Level Invitational. 

Florida Flash vs. Wisconsin United – 8:20 PM – Court 2 – Homestead High School
Opening night also features a matchup of two dark horse candidates in the 17U division. Wisconsin United is deep with talent and led by forward Jaylen Key, Levi Bradley, and high-scoring guard Marshawn Wilson. The Flash also have a lot of depth and are led by the inside-outside duo of John Collins and Derric Jean. 

Milwaukee Rebels vs. Team Loaded NC – 8:20 PM – Court 3 – Homestead High School
Damontrae Jefferson and David Burrell form one of the more exciting 1-2 punches in the tournament. The dynamic duo can often turn a game into their own personal highlight reel. They’ll get Team Loaded North Carolina on opening night, led by arguably the top 2016 point guard in the nation Dennis Smith.

Wisconsin Blizzard vs. SW IL Jets – 9:30 PM – Court 2 – Homestead High School
Another underrated matchup on opening night features the Wisconsin Blizzard against the SW IL Jets. Cody Schwartz and Kyle Monroe form a great frontcourt unit for the Blizzard. The Jets have a number of prospects on the rise, including Carlos Anderson and Emondre Rickman.

Gateway vs. REACH Legends – 9:30 PM – Court 6 – Homestead High School
In the nightcap, two more tournament dark horses take the floor. Each team features an underrated junior prospect on their roster who will match up at shooting guard. The high-IQ wing Stephen Harris for Gateway will meet the always explosive Jaylin Walker for REACH Legends. 

16U Division Highlights Opening Night
Jersey City Boys Club vs. Wisconsin Academy – 6:00 PM – Court 1 – Homestead High School 

Coming off a 16U title at the Next Level Invitational, Wisconsin Academy is looking for another at the summer jam. Sam Hauser and Trevor Anderson have been all but unstoppable during the travel season, but they’ll be tested in a big way on opening night. Jersey City Boys Club features a number of talented players, including Idris Joyner.

Hoop Dreams Idaho vs. Playground Elite – 7:10 PM – Court 4 – Homestead High School
Another favorite in the 16U division, Playground Elite can never be counted out of the title discussion. Led by exciting point guard Juwan McCloud and Marquette commit Phillip Flory, Playground Elite features a high-octane offense that most teams struggle to slow down. They’ll get a Hoop Dreams Idaho squad on opening night that features some of the best talent from the state of Idaho. 

Dream Vision vs. Quad City Elite – 9:30 PM – Court 3 – Homestead High School
After finishing as the runner-up in the 16U division at the Next Level Invitational, Quad City Elite will be thrown right back into the fire on opening night. Isaac Gassman, Donovan Oliver, Noah McCarty, and Isaiah Roby are four stars that play very well off each other for Quad City Elite. They’ll get a Dream Vision squad that features a number of up and coming prospects such as Daron Henson, Shacquille Dawkins, and Tyler Bey.

Martin Bros. vs. Under Armour Grind – 9:30 PM – Court 5 – Homestead High School 
Martin Brothers is one of the premier teams in the state of Iowa. They’ll look to Iowa commit Cordell Pemsl and sharpshooting guard Jordan Bohannon. UA Grind will put the dynamic duo to the test, featuring some strong sophomore talent from the Indianapolis area.
