Mequon, WI – It was Day 2 of the NY2LA Sports Summer Jam and the action was fast paced as teams finished pool play and tried to get into Bracket play. We focused on the 17U and 16U divisions again on Friday. Here is a recap of who stood out, who boosted their stock, and who caught our eyes as Sleepers on the first day of wall to wall action.
DAY 2 STANDOUTS
2020 F Luke Travers – AUSA Platinum
Travers was terrific against a tough Illinois Wolves squad as AUSA was able to get the win. His passing was especially important as he helped set his teammates up for scores and probe the strong interior defense of the Wolves. In the afternoon tilt Travers chipped in 14 points to lead AUSA. He has interest from multiple Division 1 programs.
2020 G Max Klesmit –WI Blizzard
Klesmit was outstanding in the first live period and has picked up where he left off leading the Blizzard to 2 wins on Friday. He has multiple D2 offers and interest form quite a few D1 programs as well.
2021 F Mike Foster Jr –Phenom University EYBL
Foster again looked right at home grabbing boards and leading the break for Phenom University. When he pushes the break it’s easy to see the progression in his game and where he can still go as a player. Foster was engaged and it showed with 13 points/12 rebounds and 5 blocks.
2020 G Carson Smith – Phenom University NY2LA
Smith was scintillating on Friday with 2 29 point games for the NY2LA entry of Phenom University. The guard was hunting the three ball and proved to the coaches on hand that he is a name to follow.
2021 F Lachon Bofinger – AUSA Platinum
The boys from Australia picked up a signature win Friday and Bofinger had a highlight dunk as he caught a body on the break. The 6-6wing attends Montverde Academy and his bounce goes well with a big frame that allows him to play on the wing while helping AUSA control the glass.
2021 G Max Christie – Illinois Wolves
When Christie takes the court it’s easy to see the tools that have made him a must watch for many of the top programs in America. Picking his spots Christie showed range and an explosive first step on Friday. He scored 4 straight possessions early Friday showing his ability to get buckets in bunches.
DAY 2 STOCK BOOSTERS
2021 G/F Isaiah Barnes – Illinois Wolves
Barnes is still growing and he looked more comfortable with his added length on Friday. He was aggressive to the rack and played with poise in the half court. The wing from Illinois is clearly ascending and has all the tools to become a big time wing at the collegiate level.
2021 G – Connor Dillon –Illinois Irish Elite
Dillon is just a player. He finds a way game in and game out to help this year’s Irish squad end up on the win column more often than not. His play in July has been high level and more importantly consistent. For those wondering if he can do it at the next level his production over the past 2 weeks is certainly proof. He led the Irish with 15 points and another win.
2021 F Fraser Laroque -Rage
Laroque caught our attention yesterday with his size and upside and today his effort was the story. The 6-6 forward is active and long and he was aggressive on the offensive glass on Friday leading to multiple put backs. Definitely a 2021 forward to watch.
2020 G–Dorian Harris - SYF
Harris was active for a SYF team known for their size. This high flying and relentless wing serves as a great contrast to a front line that controls the paint and allows him to get out in transition where he excels.
2021 G – Tanner Resch –WI Swing
Resch has always been a big shot taker and he got it going on Friday dropping 17 points for the Swing. If he can make shots like that it makes him very difficult to match up with and bodes well for his recruiting.
DAY 2 SLEEPERS
2023 G Matas Buzelis – Full Package
The young wing caught our eye late Friday and his skill set was something we had to take note of. He jumped out at you with his ability to pass and score from the perimeter but his size on the 14U circuit as well. He led Full Package with 23 points.
2020 G James Horton – Young Legends
Horton came up big and showed an ability to score for the Young Legends. His 30 point outburst was impressive because of the way he was able to put the ball in the basket in both the half court and on the break.
2020 G Arion Burns – WI Surge
Burns had it going for the Surge on Friday dropping 25 points and leading the way. The team doesn’t have a ton of size but Burns was effective at the rim and in transition.
