Some players have a knack for making plays and consistently affecting games with their abilities and leadership. 2021 Point Guard, Jordan Rice of Rock Island H.S. (IL) is certainly one of those players. He is a constant leader on his teams and does so with his play and his effort every game. His talent and intangible qualities have earned him interest from various Division I and Division II schools.
Rice is sleekly quick and plays crafty at his 5’10”. His handles are excellent and he mans the point guard spot well where he leads his team. With a variety of moves and a great feel for scoring the ball, Rice is one of the better scoring point guards around and often was the leading scorer for a tough Quad City Elite team during the travel season. Rice is a premier attacker of the hoop, breezing past defenders and finding ways to finish at the rim, sometimes straight line and quick with soft touch on the glass, sometimes with a little short floater, and other times with some acrobatic moves in the air to adjust the shot over bigger defenders at the hoop.
Shooting-wise, Rice is a solid perimeter shooter who can get hot and fill it up in a hurry. His mid-range is capable and still developing as he finds that balance of when to pull up versus going all the way in to the basket. As a floor general, Rice runs the ship well and gets his teammates involved by finding open teammates, particularly on fast break situations and pushing the ball up the floor.
Another big aspect to Rice's game is his determination and ability to make big plays in clutch situations. Often times in the spring and summer, the talented Junior PG was hitting big three's or big buckets attacking the rim, getting to the free throw line as well.
Defensively, Rice plays more with his anticipation and quickness to try to come up with steals, but he is capable of locking down on the perimeter.
Right now, Rice is receiving interest from colleges such as Drake, North Dakota, Purdue Northwest, South Dakota State, and Winona State, amongst others. That interest should continue to develop with another strong season at Rock Island and travel season with Quad City over the next year.
