Logan McLaughlin, an exciting 2020 wing felt the time was right and over the weekend pulled the trigger for Abilene Christian University. After missing time in the spring due to a wrist injury Logan came back and had a strong July with 3D Empire on the NY2LA Association. We caught up with Logan to talk about his recruitment, his choice, and what’s next.
NY2LA - Why Abilene Christian?
MCLAUGHLIN - Abilene felt like a good fit for me. On my visit I got along with all the guys very well and the coaching staff is full of incredible guys!
NY2LA- You were starting to generate a buzz and had just picked up a CS –Fullerton offer. Why now?
MCLAUGHLIN - I didn’t want to keep waiting and waiting for something that I wasn’t sure was going to come. I was happy with ACU and I wanted to make the right choice.
NY2LA - What other schools were finalists?
MCLAUGHLIN - The other top school was Cal State Fullerton but after my official visit I had to sit down and think of what option I wanted to take.
NY2LA - How did the NY2LA Basketball Association and being a part of 3D EMPIRE help you?
MCLAUGHLIN - NY2LA helped me a lot by getting coaches from out of the Texas region to come see me play. Playing against different teams was also something that I feel helped increase my game by playing against different competition. 3D helped me in more ways that I could’ve imagined. Coach Shawn and Coach CJ are two guys that are dedicated to making you a better player and person and accomplish your dreams of playing at the next level. Shawn was running around calling every school in the book for me and that’s something I could never forget. No other program I would want to play for!
NY2LA - So now that you got this out of the way what’s the goal for this season?
MCLAUGHLIN - My goals this year are to win District MVP and win the district. Go to playoffs, and get as far as possible!
Logan McLaughlin was a force the last 2 years on the NY2LA Association and one constant was assistant coach Ted Crass from Abilene Christian. It’s easy to see why they made Logan a priority with his ability to shoot from deep and finish above the rim. His motor will be a huge asset for him as he tries to keep ACU and coach Joe Golding at the top of the Southland conference. Congrats to Logan and ACU. They got a good one.
