First night of the NY2LA Sports Invitational did not disappoint. With some headliner opening night matchups, there was plenty of fireworks. Here are a few of the standouts from night one. Expect an even better day of hoops tomorrow with 13 rounds of games.
Carter LaValle – 2024 – G – Milwaukee Trail Blazers
LaValle and the Milwaukee Trail Blazers put on a show in the opening game of the tournament with the team scoring an incredible 92 points. The guard showed off his great shooting ability knocking down five threes in the game. He has a great stroke spotting up from the outside, moves well to find his shots, and was hitting them at a high percentage.
Michael McNabb – 2024 – G – Chapman Basketball Academy
McNabb had a tremendous performance with 16 points and great all-around play to help Chapman defeat a very talented Power 5 team. The sophomore guard played very well with the ball getting into the paint finishing plus facilitating in addition to hitting some perimeter jumpers.
Xzavion Mitchell – 2025 – SF – Phenom University
The wing had a great showing to start the tournament scoring a staggering 27 points. He has some size at 6’6” and has continued to develop all of his skills. Not only did he score it well around the paint but also played tremendous off the dribble. His ability attacking the basket with his handle and moves have continued to take great leaps. Mitchell is one of the better 2025 prospects in the region.
Milan Momcilovic – 2023 – F – Phenom University
An incredibly skilled forward that had his scoring ability on full display tonight scoring 26 points. He has such a smooth jumper and was hitting shots from all over at a high percentage. Not only did he shoot it well spotting up from three but also getting into the mid-range. Momcilovic has such a great scoring package and very easy to see why he has been offered by Michigan State, Ole Miss, and Texas recently in addition to his long list of other offers.
Amir Perryman – 2025 – PG – The Academy
One of a trio of guards along with Luke Westerdale and Stevie Elam that came up big to knock down a very good Phenom University team. The point guard was making play after play attacking the basket. He has great moves off the dribble and not only scored it getting to the basket but also distributed it very well on the move. With all of his tolls, defenders just could not stay in front of him tonight.
